When David Lacy married his wife, TK, he also married her family. He treated her three children, Ashley, Rusty, and Courtney, as if they were his own. However, without the permission of their biological father, David was unable to adopt them, so he remained their unofficial stepdad.

Throughout their school years and well into adulthood, David did everything a good dad should do for his children. Offering his support and guidance, overseeing their homework, taking them to dances, teaching them to drive, attending their graduations, and celebrating the births of their own kids. He just wasn’t their legal parent.

However, on his 51st birthday, 26 years after David married their mom, children Ashley, Rusty, and Courtney decided it was time to show him what he means to them. And so, in a lovingly written birthday letter, they asked David to adopt them.
