Word association games are a favorite of family game nights. They appeal to the ham actor and amateur detective in all of us. But despite years of practice, there’s always at least one occasion when you can’t see what’s staring you in the face.
When Tammy Ramsey of Austin, Texas, settled down for a game of “Bowl of Nouns” with her son Drew Crenwelge, and his wife, Carla, she had no idea what was in store.
The game involves guessing words that are acted out one by one to form a phrase. But try as he might, Drew just couldn’t get his mom to put two and two together, as he gave repeated clues that spelled out the fact that his wife was pregnant with Tammy’s first grandchild. Even when the words came out of her mouth, Tammy didn’t quite take in what she was saying. Until, at the third time of asking, the penny dropped.
