ICYMI: Teen's ding-dong ditch message of kindness, a memorable tattoo, and a cuddly walrus

On this week's Humankind patrol we met a teen who left an inspiring 'ding-dong ditch' message on a doorbell cam, a daughter who got a memorable tattoo for her father with Alzheimer's, a crafty mom who made her son's Woody doll a matching hearing aid, a walrus who needs round-the-clock cuddling, and a chain of lifeguards who plucked a struggling boogie boarder from danger.

In Florida, a local tattoo artist captured drone footage of a dramatic rescue after a strong current pulled a man on a boogie board far from shore. As one lifeguard began the rescue, a backup team arrived and used their buoys to help form a human chain to drag the man to safety. In Madison, Connecticut, a dad who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's, was moved to tears when his daughter revealed the tattoo she got for him featuring two waves and the year of his birth in memory of when he taught her to sail. Wendy Wuu from New York City noticed there were no toys that looked like her 5-year-old son Deej, who is deaf. Using nail acrylic, she made hearing aids for his prized toy, a Woody doll from the Toy Story movie, so he and other children with hearing challenges could feel included.

In Seward, Alaska, a walrus calf was found four miles inland and all alone, malnourished, dehydrated, and with a cloudy eye. Walrus calves need constant care from their moms for their first two years of life, and without an adult around, the calf may not have survived. So the staff at Alaska SeaLife Center have taken on the role of mom, providing the walrus babe with round-the-clock cuddling and attention.

Lastly, while friends were playing 'ding dong ditch' at random houses, Jacksen Proell did something different. Instead of pranking a stranger, the 13-year-old left a message of kindness on a pair of doorbell cams.

"I don't know what they're doing. They're running away and stuff. I'm just trying to say you matter, man. Or girl. whoever you are," he said. "You matter to someone. Keep that in mind. Don't forget that."Watch this week's Best Of Humankind, featuring a teen's ding-dong ditch message of kindness, a daughter's tattoo for her dad with Alzheimer's, a cuddly walrus, and more.
