When Sonny's life was hanging in the balance at just one year old, his family was hoping for a miracle.
Shortly after he was born, he was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition that impacts liver function. He needed a the atransplant before he turned two.
The family's hopes were answered. Sandy Flash turned out to be a liver match for Sonny. Inspired to join the donor list after her husband needed a liver transplant in 2022, she was now going to save a life with that decision.

“Sandy gave a piece of herself to save my baby’s life. Organ donation is truly an unconditional gift,” said Sonny’s mother, Katie White.
After they both recovered safe and sound at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, Sandy was finally able to meet the life she saved. And his thankful family.
“Next to having my own children, this is the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done,” she said.
