Watch a happy grandma cheer grandson's publishing deal

When an author's dreams came true, the first person he wanted to tell was his number one fan.
Brandon Purves, 28, entered his queer romance novel, "Do Not Kiss Nicholas Prince," in the Penguin Michael Joseph Undiscovered Writers' Prize competition. After several months, the judges chose his book as the winner. The prize included a publishing deal with Penguin Michael Joseph and representation by the Janklow & Nesbit agency.
Purves has no bigger fan than his grandma. So, as soon as he got the good news, he ran to her house to share it.

"She's always been so supportive of me, not only in my career, but as a gay man too," said Purves.
As well as being his lead cheerleader, the author's grandma is also his muse. His novel, "Do Not Kiss Nicholas Prince," includes a close relationship between the lead character and his grandma, a case of fiction mirroring fact.
"It was important to me that my first book represent a love story that I could relate to. I consider it a love letter to the queer community," said Purves. "And my gran couldn't be more encouraging."
