For Pasadena High School senior class president Daniella Novo, the timing couldn’t have been better. After devastating wildfires forced many families to relocate, the price of prom tickets had become a major concern.
“People are moving away, and that ups the cost of the prom ticket,” said Novo. “I was talking to anyone I could talk to just to see if they had any ideas to help out.”
That’s when the Alice’s Kids charity stepped in with a $175,000 donation, covering tickets for more than 800 students affected by the fires.
“It gave me goosebumps,” said Ron Fitzsimmons, executive director of the organization. “I can't imagine what they've been through, but it was nice to see them applauding and smiling.”
For Emma Thatcher, who lost her home in the fire, this gesture sparked a ripple effect of kindness.
“It makes me want to contribute so much more,” said Emma. “And just the thought that I could do that for somebody else in the future, it's so much more empowering to want to do that because you felt the effects.”
