At this time of year, many people are heading home to be with their families. And for members of the military, the chance to return to their loved ones is especially meaningful.

Airman 1st Class Elisabeth Meadows had been counting the minutes until she could come home for Christmas to see her husband and little girl after three months away. She kept her return a secret, and when she walked through the door she was greeted by an eruption of hugs and happy tears.

Brendan, a Marine corporal, had been away for 18 months on deployment in Japan when he got his orders to head home. His surprise return drew squeals of delight and tears of joy from his mom Theresa and younger sister Elissa as they celebrated their best Christmas gift ever!

Meanwhile, after 300 days apart, 10-year-old Evan put seeing his brother, Army Private First Class, James Ellinor, at the top of his wish list while being interviewed at school about his dream gift. Then, out of the blue, he got the ultimate early Christmas present.

Home is where the heart is, as they say. And this trio of military moments is a testament to that.
