What to see: New movies in theaters this weekend
Looking for a good movie this weekend? Here are the latest releases and reviews from our movie critic Claudia Puig (@claudiapuig).
The Drop
Fans of writer/producer Dennis Lehane's Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone will fall prey to the tension in this moody crime that plunges viewers into a seedy world drenched with foreboding. Based on Lehane's short story Animal Rescue, the terrific cast and punchy dialogue make it particularly worth seeing, bringing energy to a deliberately-paced tale that occasionally feels plodding (*** out four stars).

Dolphin Tale 2
Like its predecessor, Dolphin Tale 2 is a family-friendly story with a heart-warming and wise message of healing. Informative, morally complex and supremely well-intentioned, it generally sidesteps sentimentality for appealingly straightforward storytelling. (*** out of four stars).

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby
As a chronicle of the collapse of a marriage, the film is choppy, contrived and cloying. Part of the problem may be that this two-hour version, called The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them, is truncated from the 191-minute original, which will be released next month. What looms largest is the sense of abiding loss of a potentially great movie. (** out of four stars).
Other recent releases:
