What to see: New movies in theaters this weekend
Looking for a good movie this weekend? Here are the latest releases, trailers and reviews from Paste BN.
The Boxtrolls
Once you get past Kiddie Fare 101, the latest stop-motion effort from the acclaimed studio Laika is a delectable treat that balances themes of identity and class warfare with Monty Python-style political skewering, quirky humor and dairy jokes. Here, the adults are monsters and cute underground beasts are the good guys. (*** out of four stars)

The Equalizer
Denzel Washington is such a magnetic screen presence audiences would probably still love the guy if one of his characters killed someone with a corkscrew. Now's our chance to find out! The business end of a wine opener is just one tool Washington uses to dispatch people in The Equalizer. (** 1/2 out of four stars)

Jimi: All is By My Side
John Ridley's film about Jimi Hendrix, portrayed in a terrific performance by Andre Benjamin, eschews the cradle-to-grave route –though a troubled family life is hinted at. Instead Ridley — who was prevented by Hendrix's estate from using any of his compositions — focuses on one year of the guitarist's life as he moved from New York to London. (*** out of four stars)

The Two Faces of January
The drama stars Viggo Mortensen as a con artist and Kirsten Dunst as his wife. The pair must flee Greece with a stranger, Oscar Isaac, after one of them is caught up in the death of a private detective.
