'Ouija' premiere ends with graveyard seance
Throughout the horror film Ouija, the message of not messing with a Ouija board in a graveyard is made abundantly clear.
Naturally, the premiere special screening of Ouija at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery featured a board-led seance inside the historic Masonic Lodge on Friday night.
The film's stars Olivia Cooke, Shelley Hennig and Daren Kagasoff all took part in the seance following a special premiere screening of the film.
The husband-wife team behind the movie -- writer-director Stiles White and writer Juliet Snowden -- looked on during the seance as did horror producer Jason Blum and his family. The seance guide said he conjured up a spirit named Noreen who allegedly answered questions through the Ouija board, tossed some books, rang a bell and lifted a candlestick.
Onscreen, the same event leads to disastrous consequences for a group of young friends mourning a deceased friend.
"The sequel of this movie is about everyone leaving this (special) screening and being cursed because they watched as a Ouija board was used in a graveyard," said White afterward.
Snowden pointed out that the original Ouija boards did not have written rules, such as not to use the board in a graveyard.
"These rules have kind of come about over time," said Snowden. "We always heard as kids to never do it in a graveyard."
"I should be okay," Snowden added. "I didn't touch the board."
Ouija will be released October 24 in time for Halloween.
