Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed as Dr. Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed in the role of Dr. Strange in the Marvel film adaptation due out 2016.

The news was confirmed on Marvel.com late Thursday.

Dr. Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

"Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity," Marvel President and producer Kevin Feige told the website. "In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character."

Cumberbatch is earning awards buzz now for his leading role in The Imitation Game.

Dr. Strange will be released in November 2016. The role was the main missing link of Marvel's recent Phase 3 casting announcements.
