'Goodbye to Language' wins with Film Critics


The voting was close, but the National Society of Film Critics picked Goodbye to Language as the best picture of 2014.

The 70-minute 3-D movie from French director Jean-Luc Godard narrowly beat out Boyhood.

Society members (59 film critics from across the country) gathered at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, and listed all its picks and the vote count in each category on Saturday.

Director Richard Linklater won best director for Boyhood.

British actor Timothy Spall was named best actor of 2014 for his portrayal of painter J.M.W. Turner in Mr. Turner. Marion Cotillard was named best actress.

In the supporting categories, J.K. Simmons won for Whiplash and Patricia Arquette for Boyhood.
