Which new movies are worth your money?
Looking for a good movie this weekend? Here are the latest releases, trailers and reviews from Paste BN.
'Jupiter Ascending'
The sci-fi film's reported $175 million budget must have gone largely into loopy production design, wild costumes, outlandish hairstyles and colorful make-up. It certainly didn't go into developing a coherent script or coaching believable performances. The story is laughably inane and uninvolving. The brains behind The Matrix movies, Lana and Andy Wachowski, are responsible for this ambitious misfire. (*½ out of four)

'Seventh Son'
Seventh Son is thoroughly ill-conceived, a pale imitation of its more adventurous and breathtaking brethren. And in the action thriller, Julianne Moore, the favorite for this year's best-actress Oscar, takes on a silly part in a dismal medieval fantasy. (*½ out of four)

'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water'
The lovable invertebrate SpongeBob Square Pants hits the big screen again in the buoyant and sometimes freneticThe SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. But this time he tries a little too hard to make a splash. His story mixes live action with animation, and while the outcome is intermittently funny, it's also watered-down and hyperactive. 'The Voices'
It takes a bold filmmaker and a particularly courageous Hollywood actor (Ryan Reynolds, in this case) to make a stylized and twisted dark comedy about an unapologetic serial killer who hears voices and gorily chops up his victims. The fact that the voices he hears belong to his dog and cat makes The Voices even weirder, though undeniably imaginative. (*** out of four)
