'Compton' weekend haul gets even better

Straight Outta Compton performed even better than the studio predicted over its stunning opening weekend at the box office.
The final Compton box office numbers went up dramatically on Monday morning, adjusted to a $60.2 million three-day total for the R-rated N.W.A. biopic, according to distributor Universal Studios.
This new, final number is more than $4 million greater than the studio estimates on Sunday, which placed the sprawling hip-hop epic at $56.1 million for the weekend — still a staggering number which easily put Compton on top of the weekend box office.
"This doesn't happen very often, you rarely see an upturn of $4 million when the actual box office numbers come out on Monday," says Jeff Bock, box office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. "This is a story in itself."
Bock says the solid Sunday performance for the film, which was even higher than the studio estimates predicted, shows that Straight Outta Compton is set for box office durability.
"These numbers show that this movie is far from over," says Bock. "It's the last blast of the summer, and this truly was a surprise."
The box office uptick did not carry over to Guy Ritchie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Final numbers for the Warner Bros. picture kept the spy saga at an unimpressive $13.45 million.
