Rihanna joins Luc Besson's sci-fi 'Valérian'

Rihanna is heading into outer space. Or at least, CGI outer space.

The singer has been cast in The Fifth Element and Lucy director Luc Besson's upcoming Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets, a film adaptation of the French sci-fi comic Valérian and Laureline. Besson announced her casting on his Instagram, playing coy about who exactly the singer would be playing in the film, although he promised the role would be "big."

Rihanna joins Cara Delevingne as Laureline, Dane DeHaan as Valerian, and Clive Owen as Commander Arün Filitt in the film, which will be her second live-action role (she appeared in Battleship in 2012 and voiced "Tip" in the animated film Home earlier this year).
