Exclusive: Holiday trading cards come to 'Star Wars' app

Now that the Force has awakened, Star Wars is getting into the Christmas spirit.

Topps' Star Wars Card Trader app (for iOS and Android devices) is launching a set of holiday cards for fans to collect. Some have crazy sweater designs melding candy canes, ornaments and Christmas trees with Darth Vader, Chewbacca and R2-D2 iconography, while others feature whimsical art featuring Ewoks and AT-ATs.

The new update also brings several digital cards to the app Friday celebrating the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters. There's a set of concept art cards featuring early designs of characters and vehicles in the filmmaking process, story cards with hand-painted art from scenes in the first act of the new film, and armory cards showcasing the cool weaponry in the Star Wars universe.

Since the app's launch in March, players have opened more than 175 million packs and the app hosts more than 860 million cards in the system with 8,000-plus designs, according to Topps.
