Meet the 'Warcraft' warriors: Daniel Wu conjures orc warlock Gul'dan

Gul’dan is an orc warlock who practices some seriously dark magic — like the kind that eats souls — so he’s on another level of evil in Warcraft.
Paste BN continues its week of exclusive videos introducing the main characters of the fantasy action-adventure (out June 10) with the villainous shaman played via motion-capture by Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands).
The orc leader leads his Horde from their world through a magical gate and into the human realm of Azeroth, and he has a malevolent way of making sure his army is ready for battle.
“Gul'dan thinks magic is what they need to insure the survival of their species,” Wu says. “He has to take souls — humans, other animals — and feeds off them. That’s his fuel. Even though it’s corrupting and makes (the orcs) turn into huge monsters, he thinks that’s the only way to go.”
This behind-the-scenes video shows Wu in his mo-cap outfit getting Gul’dan’s movements right, plus his admission of having a special relationship with Warcraft: His wife plays the video game, and even though he was supposed to be taking a year off after their baby daughter was born in 2013, Wu recalls, because it was Warcraft “she gave me permission to audition.”
