Trailer: Boston Marathon bombing retold in 'Patriots Day'
The public got its first look at Patriots Day, the story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing on Wednesday.
This teaser for the film, due Jan. 13, shows police Sgt. Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) preparing to go work along the race course and the moments leading up to the explosion at the finish line on April 15. The movie will also encompass the manhunt for suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Patriots Day marks Wahlberg's third collaboration with director Peter Berg on a story based on real-life tragedy, after 2014's Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon, which opened over the weekend.
The film also stars John Goodman as police commissioner Ed Davis and Michael Beach as Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick. J.K. Simmons, Michelle Monaghan, Melissa Benoist, and Kevin Bacon co-star.
A second film about the massacre, Stronger, is due next year, with Jake Gyllenhaal playing Jeff Bauman, who lost both legs in the attack.
