Live 'La La Land' show kicks off a concert tour in May
La La Land's already taken movie theaters and the Oscars by storm. Next stop: the concert stage.
La La Land in Concert: A Live-to-Film Celebration brings the songs of the Hollywood musical starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling to Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl May 26 and 27. The concert will feature a 100-piece orchestra, choir and jazz band performing along to the film and the actor's original vocal recordings, and the show will be conducted by composer Justin Hurwitz, who won two Academy Awards for the movie's music.
After the Memorial Day shows in L.A., the show will hit the road for dates in cities including Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, San Antonio, Dallas, Indianapolis, Nashville, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Denver and Washington. Tickets go on sale Friday at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT at Ticketmaster.com.
The world premiere at the Hollywood Bowl will include pre-show photo opportunities and fireworks. Also, La La Land wear and "vintage Hollywood-inspired dress" is encouraged, according to the Lionsgate press release.
"For me, one of the most thrilling and fulfilling parts of making La La Land was scoring the film to a live orchestra: a hundred phenomenal local musicians playing in real-time to the Technicolor images, bringing Justin's compositions to vivid life," director Damien Chazelle said in a statement. "I couldn't be more excited to share that experience with audiences this summer, let alone in a setting as epic and as quintessentially 'L.A.' as the Hollywood Bowl."
La La Land won six Oscars last month, including best director for Chazelle, best actress for Stone and best original song for City of Stars.
