'Captain Marvel' Brie Larson makes surprise visit to movie theater

Brie Larson, the star of "Captain Marvel," made a surprise appearance at a Clifton movie theater Saturday, stunning fans who had come out to see the latest blockbuster film in the Marvel franchise.
Social media posts show Larson dressed in a Captain Marvel sweatsuit walking around the AMC theater in Clifton Commons to greet the crowd on her film's opening weekend.
"I just heard I was on the cups of popcorn and I wanted to see for myself," she said to a theater full of screaming fans.
Larson appeared to go unnoticed at least for part of her time at the movie theater as she walked around the hallways and lobby.
But fans eventually took notice.
Larson went behind the concession counter to hand out popcorn and posed for pictures.
Fans immediately took to social media posting photos of themselves with the beaming actress.
A manager at the theater said Sunday she was unable to comment on Larson's appearance per her company's policy.
The film made an estimated $153 million in its opening weekend.
It features the origin story of Carol Danvers, a U.S. military pilot who becomes imbued with superhuman powers and embroiled in a galactic war that threatens the Earth.
The film is a prequel to most of the Marvel Universe on screen, taking place mostly in the 1990s, decades before the Avengers were formed by Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson.
Captain Marvel will likely play a key role in the next Marvel film "Avengers: Endgame" - the highly-anticipated sequel to the acclaimed "Avengers: Infinity War."
"Avengers Endgame" opens April 26.
Others in the Marvel Universe have North Jersey ties.
Both Paul Rudd and Zoe Saldana were born in the City of Passaic.
Rudd plays Ant Man in the franchise and will likely have a significant role in "Avengers: Endgame."
Saldana plays Gamora, a very popular character from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies who was killed by her father Thanos in "Avengers: Infinity War" to the shock and horror of Marvel fans everywhere.
