Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley tapes colon cancer PSA

Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley taped a public service announcement about colon cancer Monday in Nashville.

Kelley's father-in-law was diagnosed with colon cancer a few years ago. "It's really been hard on the family, so it hit really close to home," Kelley says. "Any time my band, Lady Antebellum, can use our platform to encourage more people to get screened, that is a positive thing."

The spot, for advocacy organization Fight Colorectal Cancer, features Kelley, his wife and her parents and will run as part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the USA, but preventative screenings and improvement in treatments have resulted in the death rate dropping for more than 20 years.

Lady Antebellum, whose hits include Need You Now and I Run to You, has a new holiday album out called On This Winter's Night.
