Dick Dodd, drummer for The Standells, dies at 68
Dick Dodd, a Mouseketeer-turned-rock-star who died Friday in a Fountain Valley Hospital, was in stage 4 cancer of the esophagus, spleen, liver and spine. He was 68.
Dodd was one of the youngest members of ABC's The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. Nicknamed Dickie, he was a member of the first season of the legendary starmaker show. He was a dancer in the cast of Bye Bye Birdie in 1963 with Ann-Margret.
His claim to fame came after he joined the Standells, a garage rock band behind the 1966 hit Dirty Water. Because of the lyric, "Boston, you're my home," the song became an anthem at Boston Sox and Bruins games.
