Prince doubles down on funk with two albums Sept. 30
Prince, who hasn't released a studio album since 2010's magazine freebie 20Ten, is unleashing two on Sept. 30 via former nemesis Warner Bros.
Art Official Age is billed as a solo classic Prince album of soul, R&B and funk, produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince with Joshua Welton.
The long-expected Plectrumelectrum was recorded by 3rdEyeGirl, his band with guitarist Donna Grantis, drummer Hannah Ford Welton and bassist Ida Nielsen. The funk-rock set was recorded live and in analog, with many tracks captured while the group was on its lauded Hit & Run U.K. tour earlier this year.
The pair of discs marks Prince's return to Warner, a partnership that entailed the label returning to the singer master recordings of such landmark '80s albums as Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times.
