Grammys president gives Kanye the thumbs up
Neil Portnow, the president of the Recording Academy, seems to have gotten a kick out of Kanye West's fake stage approach when Beck won album of the year at the 57th Grammy Awards.
"That's what's great about live television," Portnow said in the press room Sunday when asked about the Kanye moment, which recalled an incident in 2009 when he interrupted a Taylor Swift acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs.
"Live is live. It's unpredictable," he said. "You don't know what's going to happen. You want to be there.
"Whatever happens is part of the culture of the people in the room. They do all kinds of things that they want to do, comfortable doing. That turned out to be a fun moment, at the end of the day."
For what it's worth, West and Swift seemed to have buried the hatchet. The two were photographed together backstage.
