Podcast: Daughter tells Dad Rock what's cool

There comes a time in every music-loving parent-child relationship when the student becomes the master. It's that time when the kid is exposing her elder to music rather than the other way around.

On this week's episode of Paste BN's Dad Rock podcast, 21-year-old MJ Foster, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University and daughter of cohost Patrick Foster, schools her father on what's cool today — from hip-hop to electronic music to "whiny girl rock." Her visit to the show offers good insight into what the kids like today and why, as well as a lesson on crust punks and manic pixie dream girls.

(This follows a previous episode on which cohost Jim Lenahan's younger kids discussed their favorite songs.)
