Dad Rock does Forecastle Festival
Louisville might be the crown jewel of the Bluegrass State, but rock-and-roll (and folk and Americana) fans from across the country ruled the city last weekend. On episode 22 of Dad Rock, we report from the Forecastle Festival, a rising star on the increasingly crowded summer festival scene.
The intrepid Jim Lenahan mingled with the performers on a scorching day at Louisville's Waterfront Park (a rough job but someone's gotta do it), talking ethereal southern harmonies with Sweden's First Aid Kit, slinky rock and roll riffs with King Tuff and four-guitar madness with the unforgettable Diarrhea Planet. If you listen to this week's episode for nothing else, listen for the explanation of how the Nashville six-piece got their name.
Also featured are Over the Rhine, a long-running husband-wife duo from Cincinnati, The Lone Bellow -- we talk to the indie folk act's Zach Williams -- and the haunting Field Report, whose midwestern roots pour out in songs like the swirling "Wings."
So grab a cold beer, head out to your favorite rocking chair on the porch and relax with the sounds of a summertime music fest.
