Dad Rock podcast decodes Wilco
Wilco rose from the ashes of alt-country cult band Uncle Tupelo, quickly abandoned the twang in favor of lush, experimental indie rock and went on to a successful 20-year career.
Although the band has never registered a radio hit, it has recorded nine studio albums, including one gold record with 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and last month's surprise release Star Wars. Led by the mercurial Jeff Tweedy, Wilco also has built a loyal fan base that packs amphitheaters and other large venues with elaborate shows and almost-constant touring.
On this week's episode of Paste BN's Dad Rock podcast, hosts Patrick Foster and Jim Lenahan review the band's work with help from Paste BN social media editor Mary Nahorniak, a Wilco fanatic.
"I feel like I can kind of map my adult life to their record anthology — friendships, relationships, that kind of thing," Nahorniak says. "So they're an important band for me, for sure."
