Tigers have spoken: Dad Rock talks Neko Case
The brilliant singer-songwriter is releasing a vinyl box-set that faithfully re-issues her eight records.
From punk rock drummer to alt-country's next hot chanteuse to a genre-bending singer songwriter actually worthy of that hackneyed descriptor, Neko Case has built a dedicated following — and some mainstream success — since she broke onto the scene in the mid-1990s.
Her catalog includes heartbreaking elegies, winsome country rock and a strong, self-defined spirit that few in modern music can match.
This week, her career gets something of a honorary degree in the form of Truckdriver, Gladiator, Mule, a sprawling vinyl box-set that faithfully re-issues her eight recordings and includes an 80-page book designed by Case.
In honor of this milestone, Dad Rock hosts Jim Lenahan and Patrick Foster invite friend of the show (and big Neko fan) Mary Nahorniak, a social media editor at Paste BN, to participate in an exploration of some of her best work. The conversation touches on brilliant songs like South Tacoma Way and Man, as well as Letter From An Occupant, which she cut with indie rock supergroup The New Pornographers.
If you need a introduction to Neko or have been following her as long as Mary, Patrick and Jim have, this episode of Dad Rock is truly Guided By Wire.
