Song of the week: Courtney Barnett's 'Three Packs A Day'

Just because she's a Grammy contender doesn't mean Courtney Barnett's living the high life. The Australian singer-songwriter, who nabbed a nomination for Best New Artist, shows off her trademark sardonic wit on the new song 'Three Packs A Day;' referring not to cigarettes, but rather to the classic provisions of starving artists everywhere, instant ramen.

Subsisting on dollar-store noodles isn't an ideal lifestyle, but Barnett makes it sound positively luxurious, channeling Sheryl Crow and Liz Phair with darkly comic lyrics against the backdrop of sunny guitars and harmonicas: "It can't be true that they use glue to keep the noodles stuck together." Hopefully, after next month's Grammy's ceremony, Barnett can upgrade to some less-carcinogenic dinners.
