Dad Rock marks Labor Day with songs about work
Songs about work were more common when work was harder. In the pre-rock 'n' roll era, folk and blues music often dealt with the struggles of the working man. With the post-war economic boom, popular music turned more toward romance, dance parties and later existential themes and social commentary.
But that's not to say that no great songs about punching the clock have been recorded over the past few decades. In celebration of Labor Day, Paste BN's Dad Rock podcast examines some favorites. And the show takes an unexpected turn when co-host Patrick Foster focuses his song picks on one particular profession.
