Singer Jill Scott ties the knot in backyard of her Tennessee home

NASHVILLE — R&B singer-songwriter and actress Jill Scott got married to her longtime boyfriend Mike Dobson in Franklin over the weekend.

The Saturday wedding took place in the backyard of the Grammy-winning, Philly native’s home deep inside the Williamson County city.

Roughly 50 people attended, including the couple's relatives and friends from Philadelphia and Jamaica. Comedian Kym Whitley was among the guests.

Hip-hop legend Big Daddy Kane's performance during the post-wedding reception was Scott's wedding gift from her husband, a native of Jamaica.

The 44-year-old singer's plantation-style home is in a gated community.

In a Nashville Scene article just over a year ago, Scott described the community where she lived as a being small-enough place that she "can talk to my neighbors or strangers about nothing. ... They don't know who I am, and I love it."

Scott, whose hit songs include Gettin' in the Way and A Long Walk, played roles in movies such as Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married and Why Did I Get Married Too?
