Social media trolls Balenciaga by turning Ikea bags into clothes

People on social media are using Ikea blue bags to create everything from dresses to thongs and shoes. 

The cheeky fashions are a nod to fashion designer Balenciaga's "Arena Extra-Large Shopping Tote," which looks very similar to the Ikea "Frakta" tote. The Balenciaga bag is currently available on Barneys' website for a price tag of $2,145, while the Ikea version is 99 cents.

A spokesperson for Ikea told TODAY, the brand was "deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the Ikea iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag."

And on social media, some are offering Balenciaga more inspiration for upcoming designs featuring the Ikea bag.
