Celeb superlatives: Super-secretive Cruz

Think high school yearbook superlatives — if J.Lo and Simon Cowell were classmates.

Most consistently secretive: Penélope Cruz

The actress took home Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive title this week and, in the magazine's cover story, managed to reveal zero personal details. (The reporter was forced to write about bullfighting for much of the profile instead.) Yep, her marriage, her children, even her next movie — all off-limits. "She will not discuss the evolution of her relationship with (husband Javier) Bardem, for instance, whom she first met filming Jamón Jamón, at age seventeen, but didn't marry until four years ago," Esquire writes. "That is for us," Cruz said.

Most supportive ex-girlfriend behavior: Jennifer Lopez

The star ever-so-casually went to see her former fiancé's hit movie last weekend. "Feet up … movie night!!! #GoneGirl" she tweeted, along with a photo of her boots in the theater. And she didn't even include a sly reference to Ben Affleck's on-screen nudity! That's #classy.

Worst career decision: Katie Holmes

She's returning to television as Jackie Onassis. This after critics eviscerated her turn in the 2011 miniseries The Kennedys. (Sample: The Hollywood Reporter said that every time she came on screen, you'd think, " 'That's Katie Holmes.' Or, 'That's Katie Holmes having the damndest time with Jackie's accent.'") Now, in a four-part miniseries called The Kennedys — After Camelot, the actress "will continue the role as Jackie grows into the Jackie O the world knows best," says ReelzChannel CEO Stan E. Hubbard. "Katie is brave, committed and perfect for this role." Brave, indeed.

Best at Hollywood humility: Selena Gomez

It's been a rough year for Gomez. The pop star (and on-and-off girlfriend of Justin Bieber) says she's been trying to figure out exactly who she is. On a scale of one to 10, she told Ellen DeGeneres, "I'm a seven." What?! "I know I'm not perfect, but I know I have a lot of people that support me and love me," she continued. "I don't know, I don't want to let anyone down. So I just try to be the best I can be. It's awkward being 20. In our 20s." Points for honesty?

Sagest advice-giver: Michelle Obama

Here's a bit of wisdom worthy of reading twice: During those angst-ridden teenage years, you just have to hang on. In a written piece for People, Obama writes that she wishes she'd been less fearful when she was young. "I would love to go back in time and tell my younger self, 'Michelle, these middle and high school years are just a tiny blip in your life, and all the slights and embarrassments and heartaches, all those times you got that one question wrong on that test – none of that is important in the scheme of things.'"

Most off-trend: Simon Cowell

Brad married Angie. George married Amal. Where are the holdouts? "I'm the only iconic bachelor left in the entire world — thanks for that, George Clooney!" Cowell trumpeted in an interview with Hello magazine. The 55-year-old recently had a baby with girlfriend Lauren Silverman, but he isn't about to pop the question. "I think it's a title I'll keep for a while longer, if I'm honest. I've never said no to marriage, but then again, I couldn't (have imagined) having a kid at one point, and now look at me," he added. Must be a fun read during late-night feedings in the Cowell house.
