Celeb superlatives: Murphy's return, Kanye being Kanye

Paste BN's Kelly Lawler digs through the latest celebrity news, giving thumbs-up or eye rolls to those who earned them. Think high school yearbook superlatives — if Eddie Murphy and Miley Cyrus were classmates.

Most disappointing return: Eddie Murphy

After Saturday Night Live hyped the return of Eddie Murphy -- who hadn't been to studio 8H since hosting in 1984 -- for the show's 40th anniversary special, the comedian's big homecoming was a little, well, disappointing. Murphy was hardly onstage during the special for longer than Chris Rock spent introducing him. After he got a standing ovation on his entrance, and told the audience to "Keep it going for Eddie" he launched into a very short speech about how good it felt to be back, before promptly exiting."You know this has been a helluva night. A real magical evening. You're always going to be a part of my life," he said. It's a nice sentiment but not what fans were expecting from the comedian who pushed so many boundaries as a cast member.

Best impression of Kanye West: Kanye West

Speaking of SNL's big night, the special's MVP has to be Kanye West, who served as one of the musical guests (along with Paul McCartney, Miley Cyrus and Paul Simon) and also participated in two separate bits making fun of himself. First, as Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Carson Daily and Al Roker were wrapping up the red carpet before the show, Kanye jumped in and grabbed the mic (don't worry, the Today Show gang was in on the joke). Then later when Mike Myers and Dana Carvey recreated their iconic "Wayne's World" sketch, they joked that Kanye was going to come up on stage -- and the camera panned to Kanye fighting with security in the audience. The jokes were funny, and on point after Kanye pulled a Kanye at the Grammys, but we think we can officially say "enough."

Best valentine for her fans: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift really loves her fans. When she's not giving them personalized dating advice, she's wishing them a very happy Valentine's Day. Only just saying "Happy Valentine's Day" is too boring. Instead the singer referenced one of the biggest jokes to come out of her mega-hit album 1989, where quite a few fans originally misheard the lyric "long list of ex-lovers" as "lonely Starbucks lovers." So on the holiday made for both ex-lovers and Starbucks lovers, Swift tweeted this message to her fans: "Sending my love to all the lonely Starbucks lovers out there this Valentine's Day.....even though that is not the correct lyric."

We're pretty sure her fans love her even more now.

Best response to an online troll: Amy Schumer

It's been a big week for the Comedy Central star, who, on top of launching the new season of Inside Amy Schumer, just premiered the trailer for her comedy Trainwreck from director Judd Apatow. She also had to deal with a post on Hollywood Elsewhere titled "Apatow's Funny-Chubby Community Has a New Member." "There's no way she'd be an object of heated romantic interest in the real world," it said. "I didn't read the thing," she told Paste BN. "From the bottom of my heart — I could not care less." Way to be, Amy.

Biggest Pretty Woman moment: Miley Cyrus

Remember that scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts' character tries to go shopping at fancy stores in Beverly Hills, but is turned away by the snooty salespeople? It's a pretty iconic moment from the movie (followed by the equally iconic "big mistake" scene later when she comes back dressed from head to toe in designer duds.) Well, apparently it's not that far from the real thing. Speaking to the Telegraph's Sunday Styles magazine, Miley Cyrus explained why she's not a huge fan of shopping in fancy stores. "You've seen Pretty Woman, obviously. Well, they are actually like that," she said. "If you walk in, they give you the worst look you've ever seen, and I am too outspoken to deal with those kinds of people."

Proudest fiancé: Ashton Kutcher

Did you know that Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are together and they have a baby? Because if you didn't, Kutcher sure wants to make sure you do. Speaking at the #TECHmyway conference in Sydney, the actor decided to really over-share with the 300-plus people in the crowd. Last week, I was walking with Mila Kunis, who's my fiancé. I get to have sex with her. It's amazing." But don't worry, he wasn't done yet. He also bragged about their daughter, Wyatt. "We're walking, and I had baby Wyatt strapped to me. She's beautiful," he said. And in case you still weren't sure about his relationship with Kunis, he went on, referencing her royal character from Jupiter Ascending, "She plays the Queen of Humanity. I have sex with the Queen of Humanity." Well isn't that nice for you Ashton?
