'Dancing With the Stars' sends home a diva
The theme for Monday's Dancing With the Stars was Spring Break, and the eight remaining stars got crazy and kitschy.
There were also team dances.
Patti LaBelle, when she wasn't dancing, was grilling hot dogs in the Sky Box.
And one celeb was sent packing. Would it be Bachelor Chris Soules? Or maybe Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec? Both have been at the bottom of the pack.
Here's how the stars stacked up with judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli on Week 6 as their individual dance scores were combined with team dance scores.
Riker Lynch and Allison Holker didn't get the music for their dance until Thursday of this week. They were stressing. But you wouldn't know it watching their samba. They OWNED the ballroom. "I'm totally fangirling out!" said Carrie Ann. (And we totally agreed with her.) Bruno said Riker is "the future of dance." Scores: 10, 8, 9, 10 = 37 + 39 = 76
Willow Shields hurt her ribs during paso doble week, and they were still hurting, so she went to get an X-ray. The doctor said she has an extra rib. Huh?Maybe it helped her sassy salsa to Tequila with Mark Ballas. Scores: 9, 8, 8, 9 = 34 + 39 = 73
Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough danced a fierce tango to Summer by Calvin Harris. Nastia was feeling some pain from Derek's intense choreography demands. As always, they were amazing - a vision in white, zooming around the floor with the fog swirling. Julianne was booed for criticizing their lack of a connection. Len said it should have been "low and slow." This was clearly the week the judges felt they needed to take these two down a notch even though it made no sense at all. Their scores were still decent. Scores: 9, 8, 8, 9 = 34 + 39 = 73
Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy did a jazz dance to Bootylicious. Rumer worked it. Mom Demi, sporting her now trademark big black glasses, laughed and cheered her on. Julianne was "underwhelmed" - and got booed for saying it. Bruno loved it, calling it "raunch-a-licious." Tsked, tsked Len: "It's a ballroom, not a bedroom." Scores: 8, 8, 7, 9 = 32 + 39 = 71
Chris Soules and Witney Carson upped their game this week dancing a sweeping Viennese Waltz that wowed the judges. "You wooed us all," Said Carrie Ann. But Len said the technique was lacking. Julianne was "blown away." Scores: 8, 7, 8, 8 = 31 + 39 = 70
Patti LaBelle rocked a beachy quickstep in which she kicked off her shoe and spent the rest of dance with one shoe on and one shoe off! Not easy. But she was a trouper, smiling through it all. "Girl I don't know what happened," Patti told co-host Erin Andrews. Scores: 8, 7, 7, 7 = 29 + 39 = 68
Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess had a tiff during rehearsals as Sharna pushed Noah to the edge, wanting more from him. He was upset that it made her "look bad." But it worked, though. Their rumba was sexy, with a shirtless Noah swiveling his hips a bit as Sharna swirled around him, except for one moment when things seem to come to a halt. Scores: 7, 7, 7, 8 = 29 + 39 = 68
Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson jived to Surfin' Safari, hoping to pull up their scores from last week's low. Robert got off his timing, but Len Goodman said it was "better than last week." Scores: 7, 7, 7, 7 = 28 + 39 = 67
Team Yolo, led by Nastia, included Noah, Robert and Willow. They used beach balls and other props for a cute dance to Wipeout. The judges adored it. Scores: 10, 9, 10, 10 = 39
Team Trouble, led by Rumer, included Riker, Chris and Patti. The bad-kid classroom-themed dance was also cute, with Ms. Patti in charge. The judges called it clever, fresh and fun. Scores; 10, 9, 10, 10 = 39
And just when we were all still smiling from those dances, it was elimination time.
Sent packing: Patti LaBelle. The 70-year-old diva said she was "honored to be here as long as I've been. I've learned so much about me. I learned I can take direction. I learned a few steps, and I made a great friend in Artem." She thanked fans and judges. "I'm happy."
Get ready for next week: There's a double elimination planned for Tuesday, when the results show returns.
