Fallon shares details on serious hand injury
With all the Tonight Show's skits and celebrities and shenanigans, sometimes we forget that Jimmy Fallon is an excellent storyteller. His ghastly account of his recent amputation scare, for better or for worse, will remind you.
After a June 26 taping of the Tonight Show was cancelled because Fallon suffered a "minor" finger injury, the host shared the full account of his harrowing hospital saga on Monday night's show.
After slipping in the kitchen and catching his ring on the countertop, Fallon explained, he suffered from "ring avulsion," a serious injury caused by the sudden pull on a finger that often results in amputation.
He warned viewers against Googling the condition, on account of the graphic images that accompany the internet searches.
While the host kept his finger, the severe injury landed Fallon in emergency surgery, followed by 10 days in an intensive care unit.
He thanked fans on Twitter for their well wishes Tuesday morning, reiterating his call not to Google pictures of the finger injury. (We recommend heeding his advice.)
Fallon previously tweeted about the injury, assuring fans he was fine after almost "ripping off" his finger.
