Keith Urban's father dies days after exhibit celebration

Keith Urban's father, Robert, died Saturday night in Australia after an extended battle with cancer.

"I've been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support that Nic (wife Nicole Kidman) and I and our family have received," Urban said in a statement to The Tennessean Sunday night.

"His long battle with cancer is now over and he is finally at peace."

Urban said his father's love of country music "set me on my life's journey."

"Thank you to everyone who has kept us all in your thoughts and prayers."

Urban revealed that his father was in his last days Wednesday night at a ceremony celebrating the star's new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
