Linda Perry apologizes for Lady Gaga Oscar comments
Singer Linda Perry has apologized for posting a string of tweets claiming that Lady Gaga didn't deserve her Oscar nomination for the song Til it Happens to You from The Hunting Ground.
Gaga sings the song, a contender for best original song featured in the campus sexual-assault documentary, and is credited with co-writing the piano ballad with Diane Warren, an eight-time Oscar nominee herself. Perry posted a lengthy rant on Twitter early Monday, claiming that while Gaga might have rewritten one line, but most of You was left unchanged from Warren's original demo.
"I have Diane's original demo with her singing," she tweeted. "The only line that has been changed 'Till you're at the end, the end of your rope.'"
"But chances are Diane still took part in rewriting that line which means Gaga contributed a few words," she continued. "Is that writing? Not in my book."
Now Perry is walking her comments back with a new string of tweets posted later Monday, apologizing to Gaga:
On Monday morning, Warren tweeted: "The song is the result of a special collaboration between myself and Lady Gaga. As Lady Gaga and I have consistently said. To you was inspired by the countless survivors of abuse who need our support and love so they know they're not alone."
The Oscars, hosted by Chris Rock, will air on ABC on Feb. 28.
