Prince's death, Day 17: No official memorial service, yet
Here's the latest on the investigation into the singer's death, his estate and tributes:
11:30 a.m. ET: Don't expect any officially sanctioned Prince memorials for the time being. His family issued a release late Friday evening, which read: "Contrary to previous and current reports, there has been no memorial, funeral or tribute service for Prince that was organized or authorized by the family or Paisley Park representatives. Together, the family is planning an official memorial service and public event to take place in the near future. Prince and his music influenced so many people that we feel inspired to celebrate his life and legacy in just the right way. We appreciate the public’s patience and have been comforted by your outpouring of love, support and condolences. We look forward to sharing with the world this celebration of, and farewell to, our Prince. Details will be coming soon. "
Friday recap: A Minnesota probate judge authorized Bremer Trust, the special administrator overseeing Prince's assets, to run any necessary genetic tests on blood samples taken during his April 22 autopsy for use in determining whether future claimants against the singer's estate are blood relations.
And artists inspired by Prince and fans gathered outside Los Angeles City Hall— the backdrop for his Diamonds and Pearls video —for a royal salute to the singer. Stevie Wonder closed out the show with Purple Rain and implored the crowd, “In the spirit of Prince, we gotta love one another. And we can’t just talk about it, we gotta be about it.”
