Prince's death, Day 18: Ex-wife speaks about loss of son
Here's the latest on the investigation into the singer's death, his estate and tributes:
12:35 p.m. ET: Mixed Blood Theatre's artistic director, Jack Reuler, told the Star Tribune that his theater would refund ticketholders after a gala to celebrate the group's 40th anniversary at Paisley Park on May 14 was canceled. Staffers and supporters of the Minneapolis-based Mixed Blood Theatre, which promotes cultural pluralism in the arts, were still upset Saturday after receiving word late Friday that Bremer Trust, the court-appointed representative of Prince's estate, had decided to enforce a ban on all events at Prince's estate for the time being, reports the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. Gala organizers had reserved the venue in January. “With eight days remaining before the event, there is so little time to cancel or change flights, return the outfit you bought or rented, and manage the disappointment of not experiencing that space on that evening, celebrating Mixed Blood’s first 40 years and dancing to Prince’s music,” Mixed Blood managing director Amanda White Thietje wrote in an email sent Friday evening to ticketholders, reports the Star Tribune. She said “Prince’s staff, the Paisley Park team, had nothing to do with this decision. They have been gracious, generous and supportive.”
9:40 a.m. ET: Prince's ex-wife Mayte Garcia spoke about the 1996 death of the couple's infant son at an event in Los Angeles on Friday night. Garcia, who appeared on the VH1 series Hollywood Exes for three seasons, attended the Single Moms Awards where she opened up about the tragedy. "Like most women, I always dreamt of becoming a mother," she said at the Single Moms Planet organization event. "Unfortunately, I got pregnant, lost the baby months later and then lost my marriage." Garcia, 42, notes that during her appearance on the cable reality show, a woman reached out to her about adopting a little girl, which she did five years ago. During her emotional speech, Garcia, who was married to the pop superstar from 1996 to 2000, said that Prince's death is "very difficult for me. and that is why I have chosen not to discuss it." Access Hollywood was the first to report about the speech.
9:15 a.m. ET: Call it an early Mother's Day present: At Goldie Hawn's Annual Goldie's Love In For Kids in Beverly Hills on Friday night, Kate Hudson sang Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U.
