She thought her beloved cat was lost forever in a wildfire. Then came a call of hope.
A wildfire left Katherine Kiefer with almost nothing. Her home, her cat, and her hope were gone. However, a surprise call changed everything.

At 82 years old and battling cancer, Katherine had always found comfort in her Maine Coon, Aggie.
“When she was having a hard time with her cancer treatment, she would remind herself, ‘at least I have Aggie,’” said her daughter, Carolyn Kiefer.
But when the Palisades fire ravaged her Los Angeles neighborhood, the cat disappeared into the smoke-filled chaos.
“It felt like a war zone, and it would be impossible for Aggie to survive,” Carolyn said.
For two heartbreaking months, Katherine grieved the loss of both her home and her furry companion.
“We were just trying to get ourselves reconciled to the fact that she was gone,” Katherine said. “It was really hard.”
Then came an unexpected call from the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. Against all odds, Aggie had survived by staying near the ruins of her home while she waited to be found.
