Gnats and fruit flies are annoying, whether it’s a single one flitting about the room or a swarm swirling around your over-ripe bananas. Pests are going to happen, it’s almost a guarantee in life. However, there are some easy ways to get rid of the ones that invade your home.

Watch this video for an easy way to get rid of annoying gnats and fruit flies.

How to get rid of gnats

Generally, gnats are more of a nuisance than an actual threat to humans. If you’re looking for a DIY solution to get rid of the pesky pests that doesn't require a trip to the store, consider one of these homemade methods:

  • Cinnamon.
  • A mix of apple cider vinegar, warm water and dish soap.
  • Put overripe fruit in a bowl and cover it with plastic wrap with some small holes poked in the top.

Fruit flies: how to get rid of them

If you’re looking for other solutions to evict the gnats and fruit flies in your home, consider a silent, non-zapping bug trap. You can easily find these in retail stores and online. They may be units that need to be plugged in or freestanding.

Modern-day traps like these are more discreet, looking more like a nightlight than what they actually are: a sticky insect trap. The scentless traps can be placed in the kitchen where you store produce, near your plants or anywhere you notice these bugs tend to accumulate. Once they’re set up, you just have to remember to replace the sticky paper when it’s full of bugs.
