Jennifer Nettles headed for Broadway's 'Chicago'

Jennifer Nettles is bound from Sugarland to Chicago, via Broadway.

It was announced Tuesday that the singer/songwriter — who came to fame as part of the aforementioned country group, and more recently scored a chart-topping country album with her solo debut, That Girl — will step into the role of sassy Roxie Hart in the long-running Broadway revival on Feb. 2.

Nettles' eight-week engagement as Roxie — a role introduced in this production by Ann Reinking and also previously played by Melanie Griffith, Robin Givens and Kara DioGuardi, to name just a few — through March 29.

It won't be the first time a country star has landed on Broadway, of course; Reba McEntire made a particularly memorable appearance nearly 15 years ago in a revival of Annie Get Your Gun that had originally starred Bernadette Peters.
