U.K.'s 'King Charles III' Broadway-bound
Anglophiles and royalty junkies, rejoice: Yet another British king is due to arrive on Broadway this fall.
Fresh off its victory at the Olivier Awards Sunday, where it was named best play, the Almeida Theatre-based King Charles III is headed to the Music Box Theatre. The play, by Mike Bartlett, is to begin previews Oct. 10, with an opening scheduled for Nov. 1.
Directed by Rupert Goold — whose Broadway credits include a 2010 revival of Macbeth starring Patrick Stewart — the production stars Tim Pigott-Smith in the title role, whose ascent to the throne is traced here. The production earned acclaim at the Almeida and on the West End.
