Broadway's 'Zhivago' to close

It seems that the musical-theater adaptation of Doctor Zhivago will not fare as well — on Broadway, at least — as the screen adaptation of the novel.

On Monday, it was announced that the production, which opened in April at the Broadway Theatre to mostly poor notices, will play its final performance Sunday, after 26 preview and 23 regular performances.

Like this season's new play Living on Love, which closed last Sunday, Zhivago received no Tony Award nominations to help boost its survival odds.

In a statement, Zhivago producer Anita Waxman said, "We look forward to this soaring and beautiful new musical having a long future with productions playing not only North America, but also around the world."
