'Duck Commander' musical closing early

The Duck Commander Musical, about the Duck Dynasty family, was supposed to run through June 30.

But now, Playbillreports that the 90-minute Las Vegas stage production is ending its run after only a little more than a month.

The Duck Commander Musical, based on a 2012 book by Willie and Korie Robertson, officially opened on April 15 at the Rio Hotel and Casino. A closing date has been posted for May 17.

Asa Somers is the musical's book writer, and Steven Morris, Robert Morris and Joe Shane wrote the score that combines country, rock, gospel and pop.

Representatives for the production said in a statement to Playbill that "much has been learned from this limited engagement. ... Duck Commander will now consider several possible opportunities for the next stage in the life of the show, including extended sit-down engagements in interested cities, as well as a national tour."
