Hear Kristin Chenoweth sing 'I Cain't Say No' -- to salute 'Oklahoma!'
It stands to reason that Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! would be Kristin Chenoweth's favorite musical. She's a native of the state, for starters; and with her blonde good looks, sterling soprano and comedic flair, she would seem an obvious candidate for either the leading role of Laurey -- who sings People Will Say We're In Love and Out Of My Dreams, among other classics -- or Laurey's boy-crazy buddy, Ado Annie.
In fact, Chenoweth had both parts in the bag long before she became a Broadway star: She played Laurey in an elementary school production, as a fourth-grader, and Annie as a college student at --where else? -- Oklahoma City University.
Now you can hear Chenoweth deliver Annie's big number, I Cain't Say No, in the above clip -- an outtake from the 15-minute segment that will greet audiences who see Oklahoma! in movie theaters, in a limited engagement starting Nov. 1.
The screen adaptation of the groundbreaking musical is celebrating its 60th anniversary this fall, and in celebration, the film is being shown, fully restored, at venues across the country. (A list of screenings is available at http://www.oklahoma60.com.)
In Chenoweth's "pre-show" portion, she discusses her love for the show, movie and state, and sings a few other tunes.
