Leslie Odom Jr. confirms July 9 'Hamilton' exit

Leslie Odom Jr. has confirmed that he leaving his Tony-winning Broadway role of Aaron Burr in the musical Hamilton.

When? July 9. That is when his co-star and the musical's creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, is also saying goodbye.

Odom, 34, made the announcement Sunday in a Facebook Live video. In the video shot from his backstage dressing room, the actor buries the lead and starts with Father's Day greetings to his dad and other fathers. He proceeds by ticking off some names of people he wanted to thank a week after his Tony win, including his publicists and teachers.

Then, he shares that the win confirms that he is on the right track with his career. He says that as of the posting, he is not a part of any Hamilton movie project. "I would love to be a part of it. There's a small chance that I won't be and if I'm not, I'm sure they'll find somebody great. This is brilliant material."

Finally, he gets to the news: "I get asked about the pending ending of my contract on July 9th. I am indeed leaving on July 9th. And it has been the most, completely wonderful, totally healing and inspiring experience from beginning to end."

He adds: "The most exciting part of Hamilton to me, if you can believe it, was the rehearsal room. ... When this thing was uncharted territory. ... I'm excited to have a blank page again."

And to reiterate, he says "I just wanted you to hear it from me: July 9 will be my last show."

Odom then excitedly tells fans that everything in his dressing room will be auctioned off for charity. He will announce details later, he says.
