Sunday TV: 'Wife,' 'Lincoln Center'
Live From Lincoln Center: Kristin Chenoweth: The Dames of Broadway … All of 'Em
PBS, Sunday, 8 ET/PT, times may vary
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more joyous, tuneful TV occasion than this triumphant concert from one of America's best performers and singers, Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth. Rather than just walk us through her shows and roles, this effortlessly endearing star instead offers a well-chosen collection of great songs that reflect on her career and, it seems, connect to her heart. As a singer, Chenoweth is known for the extent of her range, the purity of her tone and the power of her voice — and those are all on display here. But you'll also hear a softer, sweeter, more mature side, in songs like A Quiet Thing, Who Are You Now, and a lovely (if unfortunately credit-truncated) My Funny Valentine. Next time people on some TV singing contest make some snide crack about Broadway singers, remember this shining hour, and ask yourself what the chances are that you'll hear a better voice on their show. I'll tell you the answer in advance: You won't.
The Good Wife
CBS, 9 ET/PT
Does any series get better guests, or make better use of them, than this CBS gem? Sunday you get Matthew Perry, Stockard Channing and John Noble — and, in smaller roles, Smash's Will Chase and Broadway legend John Cullum.
Family Guy
Fox, Sunday, 9 ET/PT
Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef lends her voice to this 12 Angry Men spoof, which finds the mayor on trial for murder. That the mayor on this show might murder someone is no surprise; the surprise is that this show apparently thinks its audience has heard of 12 Angry Men. It would be nice if that were true, but it's probably not the way to bet.
