It's a mash-up of classic surfer movies and West Side Story for the tween crowd.
Teen Beach Movie, arriving July 19, is this summer's Disney Channel event movie, claiming the mantle held by High School Musical, Camp Rock, Lemonade Mouth and last year's Let it Shine.
The movie stars Maia Mitchell (ABC Family's The Fosters) as surfer girl McKenzie, and Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally) as her boyfriend Brady. She's headed for boarding school, but not before they ride one last wave, which somehow sends them headlong into their favorite early '60s surfer movie, Wet Side Story, where bikers and surfers battle for control of a local hangout.
Backed by period costumes and songs, like this clip's Cruisin' for a Bruisin', sung by Lynch, the couple's presence interrupts Wet's star-crossed plot.
The Teen Beach soundtrack, due July 16, is available for pre-order today on iTunes. The film is also out on DVD July 30.
